  • Co-led UX efforts on a successful bid for a 3-year, $23 million federal contract to support the digital experience of a major government program.
  • Interviewed by the Residents of Proserpina Park podcast about my podcasting work and characteristics of Chinese storytelling.

2023

  • Led the writing and editing of a successful renewal proposal for a $1 million grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to increase Duke University's recruitment and support of PhD students from underrepresented races/ethnicities in the physical sciences and engineering. This was the second successful renewal, allowing Duke to receive the maximum 9 years of funding (totaling $3 million) from the Sloan Foundation for this initiative.

  • Led the writing and editing of a successful renewal proposal for a $1 million grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to increase Duke University's recruitment and support of PhD students from underrepresented races/ethnicities in the physical sciences and engineering.
  • Delivered a presentation at the Association of American Universities' Wheel Bazaar Virtual Series, a summer showcase of initiatives to enhance Ph.D. education. My presentation was on the creation of a guide to help graduate students better understand the options and processes for reporting harassment, discrimination, and related concerns.
  • Delivered a presentation at eduWeb Digital Summit Xpress, a long-running annual conference for communication professionals in higher education. The presentation was on strategies for success in a one-person shop.

  • Named the Outstanding MATC Graduate, voted on by the faculty administrators of the Master of Arts in Technology and Communication program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

2013

  • Received the Joy R. Gibson MATC Cohort Award, which recognizes the member of the MA in Technology and Communication cohort who most exhibited the qualities that help make a cohort successful, such as peer support, collaboration, and leadership. The winner is selected by the students.
  • Inducted into Kappa Tau Alpha, a college honor society that recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication. Membership must be earned by excellence in academic work.
