Duke held its commencement a couple weeks ago, and I’m still recovering from the frenzy leading up to and during that weekend. It’s a hectic but fun experience for a one-person communications shop. Here are some of the things I did in the week or so before and after the weekend:
- Helping to plan logistics for the Duke Graduate School’s PhD Hooding Ceremonies
- Developing the event website for the ceremonies
- Designing the digital and printed event programs
- Making maps and event-flow diagrams for attendees
- Scripting the dean’s remarks for the ceremonies
- Developing a congratulations website for all the graduates
- Developing event promotion for a book-signing event for an alumna receiving an award that weekend
- Taking pictures of said book-signing event
- Taking pictures of dinner to honor the alumna
- Taking 2,000+ pictures of two hooding ceremonies, including getting photos of every one of the 245 participating PhD graduates who received their hoods
- Editing said 2,000+ pictures and getting the individual hooding shots to the graduates
