During a recent trip to a local science museum’s butterflies house, I observed a butterfly courtship dance. The male hovered above the female, floating up and down and occasionally lightly landing on her. But he was barking up the wrong tree, as she was of a different species. After a while, a male of the right species came along, ejected the misguided suitor, and carried out its own courtship dance.
The dances made for a prime photo op. I had my Nikon Z5 with the Nikkor 28mm lens. The butterflies were on a leaf a foot above my head, so I reached up with the camera and aimed and focused with the electronic viewfinder. The photos turned out surprisingly good.
